After the last two disapointing results it was crucial for Coyles to be on top of their game against a much changed Masterframe team from last season.
Coyles lined up in a familiar 3-5-2 formation on a very windy day, with Danny P dropping to the bench after failing a late fitness test because of a rib injury.
It was Coyles that started the brighter but could not create a clear cut chance with the final ball often being the downfall.
However after 20 minutes Scott-Douglas played a lovely weighted ball through to Corney who knocked it past the keeper, only to be obstructed. To the surprise of everyone, no penalty was given.
Masterframe then began to edge into the game and won a corner form a good challange from Piggott. The corner was floated in from the right and was not dealt with by the Coyles defence, allowing the Masterframe midfielder to strike from the edge of the box. With the ball screaming towards the top corner, Ryan pulled of a magnificent one handed save to turn it over the bar.
With the ball bouncing around all over the place it was difficult for either team to get hold of it and play.
However, Coyles won a corner after half an hour. Wigington floated the ball in and the ball fell to the feet of Hoare who's volley appeared to have crossed the line. However, the Ref and Lino said no goal.
Corney nearly had his first goal of the new year after being put through by a lovely pass by Scott-Douglas. He turned one defender but his left footed shot wasn't enough to beat the Masterframe keeper.
Wih 10 minutes left of the first half Masterframe caught Coyles on a counter-attack. The striker turned Smith and finished beautifully into the top corner of Ryans goal.
With the half coming to an end Coyles were awarded a free kick inside the box for obstruction. Wigington floated the ball in, but just a little to high for Hine to convert.
The half-time whistle blew and it was Masterframe that deservedly lead at the break. Coyles were second to every ball and it seemed like there was no confidence throughout the team.
HALF TIME: COYLES 0 V 1 MASTERFRAME
With the Gaffa giving Coyles some strong words at half time it was up to the boys to produce the goods.
Everyone seemed to now be up for winning the game with Banks and Wigington starting to win more balls in the middle of the park.
No one in the game was getting a clear chance, but the difference now was that Coyles were starting to believe that they could win the game and were treating the game with a lot more effort.
Corney was unlucky to see a free-kick go just over the bar after Scott-Douglas had been fouled.
After 15 minutes of the second half Claridge was replaced by Bridges on the right hand side at wing back and was immediately involved, winning the ball and passing to Banks. Banks scooped the ball over the Masterframe defence for Evans to run onto. He bravely jumped with the Masterframe keeper and defender and headed the ball into the empty net to equalise.
Confidence seemed to grow throughout the game for Coyles and Corney had a goal disallowed for a foul on the goalkeeper.
Masterframe did not really have a chance in the second half and could not get past the Coyles back 3.
With 20 minutes to go Wigington picked the ball up just inside Masterframes half and took the ball to the edge of the box, laying off to Scott-Douglas.
Scott-Douglas proceeded to take it round the Masterframe right back only to be brought down for a penalty.
Wigington stepped up and sent the keeper the wrong way to put Coyles 2-1 up.
With 8 minutes remaining Redbond replaced Scott-Douglas and nearly scored with his first touch, only to be tackled by Masterframes last defender.
And so the whistle went and Coyles deservedly marched into the Semi-Finals of the cup, but willhave to learn that these victories need to be hard fought.
FINAL SCORE: COYLES 2 V 1 MASTERFRAME
