Sun 18 Feb 2007  League
Coyles FC 4
Chris Hine (1)
Andrew Scott-Douglas (3)
Pilgrim Athletic 3

Coyles entered the game welcoming the return of Tom Marrow who had been sidelined for nearly three months due to injury.

It was Pilgrim who started the brighter and dominated for the first 15 minutes of the game. This pressure paid off as a long ball over the top of the defence was finished by the Pilgrim striker into the bottom corner of the net.

This was a wake up call for Coyles and Marrow and Banks in the centre of the midfield started to boss the game with some neat passing and hard tackling.

Scott-Douglas had the first chance to level after 25 minutes. A great through ball by Banks left the Coyles striker one on one with the Pilgrim keeper but after rounding him could only stand there and watch as the ball agonisingly rebounded off of the post.

Pilgrim were always a threat and were catching Coyles on the counter attack a number of times. Only a great last ditch tackle from Smith and a couple of good saves from skipper Ryan prevented Pilgrim from increasing their lead.

Coyles were looking good and relaxed and passing the ball about from back to front.

Corney was put through one-on-one with the keeper and finished well, only to see his strike ruled out for offside.

Finally after half an hour Coyles got the breakthrough they deserved when Scott-Douglas was put through by Banks and slotted past the keeper to equalise.

With numerous chances going begging Coyles should have been three or four up, however they took the lead just before half time.

Scott-Douglas was once again put through and bravely slotted past the out rushing keeper into the corner of the net.

HALF TIME: COYLES FC 2 v 1 PILGRIM ATHLETIC

Coyles started the second half where they left off and were stringing passes together but still missing guilt edged chances to finish the game off.

However, on the hour mark Coyles were awarded a corner and a great delivery from Wigington was headed in by Hine at the far post. His celebration was one to remember, running over to Baldwin and doing the Henry dance. However, this could have been mistaken for the Pardew wiggle.

Coyles were looking comfortable at the back and Marrow and Banks were still pulling the strings in midfield.

Five minutes later Coyles went 4-1 up as Scott-Douglas completed his hat-trick with a shot from the edge of the area going in off of the post.

Coyles started to relax and were punished as Pilgrim grabbed two goals in the last ten minutes of the game.

Coyles held on in the dying minutes and could have added further goals on the counter-attack.

A good win in the end but the lads will know that next time complacency could cost them dearly.
