Sun 03 Dec 2006  League
Coyles FC 2
Tom Ketland (1)
Chris Corney (1)
Welcome United 2

Coyles stayed top of the league after an entertaining 2-2 draw at William De Ferrers.

Kick off was delayed, in the only fixture to take place in the division, due to a long journey back from Bristol and it would be interesting to see how the players faired after only 3 hours sleep each.

As the game finally got underway it was Coyles who started the brighter creating a few half chances in front of goal.

After 10 minutes Welcome began to show why they haven't lost a game this season and strongly started to stamp their authority on the game. A few misplaced passes by a number of Coyles players allowed the Welcome strikers to have a few early chances, that were however dealt with comfortably by Jamie Ryan in goal.

The game then started to lose its flow and a few strong challanges by both teams were unpunished by the referee.

Coyles began to wake up and created a few good chances to take the lead. Rob Banks got his game head on and started to pull the strings in the midfield.

On the half hour a corner was awarded to Coyles, which Chris Hine narrowly headed over the bar. Ross Maguire then went close after good work down the right by Andy Scott-Douglas and Nick Bridges. The ball was played in low and flicked by Maguire, however the keeper somehow got a toe onto the ball and pushed it passed the post.

With 10 minutes of the half remaining Welcome United were awarded a throw in close to the Coyles box. The long throw was flicked on and volleyed in to the net from 6 yards by the unmarked striker.

The remainder of the half was played out by both teams with no real action. Ryan had made some top class saves and looked comfortable in goal today, but Welcome deserved to go in at half time 1-0 up.

HALF TIME: COYLES FC 0 v 1 WELCOME UNITED

Welcome started the second half the better and had a chance to increase their lead after only two minutes. A threw ball allowed the striker to bare down on goal, only for Ryan to save once again.

Coyles started to wake up after this and soon had a chance of their own. Maguire gathered the ball on the edge of the area and weaved his way past three defenders before shooting. The ball rolled agonisingly along the goal line and was cleared away out for a throw.

The game started to get a bit firey with challenges coming in left, right and centre.

Ryan then made some excellent saves to keep Coyles in the game, pushing two round the post, one over the bar and holding on to another. This inspired the team team to dig in deep.

The two boys up front were working tirelessly for the cause, along with the midfield. Maguire and Banks were starting to get hold of the ball and found their confidence.

After 65 minutes Maguire threaded a ball to Scott-Douglas on the left who turned his man and crossed the ball to the far post. Corney was there waiting and superbly volleyed home for his 5th goal in 4 games.

Welcome began to come back into the game and were finding a way of breaching the Coyles defence, with a long ball from the keeper. To many times the striker was allowed to break free and it was eventually how Welcome regained their lead.

A long ball over the top was not dealt with by Smith and the striker cooly slotted home to put
Welcome 2-1 up.

Coyles had their chances towards the end of the game with Scott-Douglas, Maguire and Corney all coming close, however so did Welcome but Ryan was up to the task in what was a MOTM display.

With 1 minute remaining a ball was slotted through for Scott-Douglas, who's shot was blocked by the out rushing keeper. With the ball bouncing on the edge of the area Ketland cooly lobbed the ball over the keeper and the defender to score a dramatic equaliser.

With one final push Brad Hoare got the ball on the halfway line and beat 5 players. He looked like he was finally going to open his account but was unfortunately disposessed.

The wistle blew on a very entertaining game to extend Coyles run of 6 games without defeat in the league.
